I'm mostly self-taught, often learning as I go. I enjoy taking advice from other artists, and constantly seek techniques to improve myself.
Much of my art focuses around characters. I find my specialty is designing a detailed depiction of a character's appearance, attire, and why they look or dress the way they do.
When I'm not designing characters, I like to draw scenes that encapsulate an emotion, with a leaning towards the dark, grim and brooding. I often experiment with horror when doing this, usually leaning towards more surreal scenes.
Other than this, my specialties also encapsulate mechanical and prop design. I strive to make said designs seem feasible, despite their more fanciful nature. A gigantic sword may be utterly impractical, but if I draw it, I strive to make it appear solid enough to hold its own weight.
I dislike drawing fanart, as I feel my true strength is my creativity and imagination. If someone's drawn something that's given them success, then I feel hardly qualified to improve it. However, it's a different story if my aim is to put a new spin or fresh perspective to it, in which case I can have a lot of fun creating an alternate interpretation of whatever I'm messing with.
When I draw for myself, I never do so without purpose.
Everything I draw has a story behind it, typically one I intend to write. Every character or mechanical design I create must have meaning: be it the protagonist to a story who carries the weight of a thousand hopes and dreams on her shoulders, or a random citizen of a fantasy world who serves to flesh out the look of their setting through their attire.
That said, my second great passion is writing. I still have much to learn in this regard, but I feel I've made much progress than when I started.
One of my specialties in writing is world building.
I feel no great fantasy or sci-fi story is complete without a fully realized setting, even if it remains unspoken or solely in the background. My favorite types of settings are those that take the standard medieval fantasy mold and shake it up with things like emergent technology or alien worlds colliding with it.
